Cwm Cynon Women’s Aid

Volunteering in Wales Fund

A valleys charity that supports victims of domestic abuse is benefiting from a band of new volunteers thanks to support from our Volunteering in Wales grant fund.

Almost 70 new volunteers have joined up to support Cwm Cynon Women's Aid since they received funding to recruit a full-time volunteer co-ordinator to develop and train new volunteers.

The volunteers are providing emotional support to women who have experienced domestic abuse as well as one-to-one mentoring to help them rebuild their lives.

They are also assisting Cwm Cynon Women's Aid at their emergency refuge which is providing accommodation for up to eight women and 24 children, and helping out at the charity's office in the Cynon Valley.

The Volunteering in Wales Fund has helped recruit over 3,500 new volunteers during the last year. This has generated more than 350,000 volunteer hours for the benefit of people and communities across Wales and is worth over £3.5 million in economic terms.
