MULTI - AGENCY MISSING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE PROJECT (GWENT)

In late 2010, the Welsh Government‘s Efficiency and Innovation Board ran a programme of public service projects throughout Wales to improve Safeguarding outcomes and reduce costs. The Board agreed with public service leaders in Gwent to progress a redesign of the service provision in the field of Public Protection. The multi - agency response to vulnerable missing persons - specifically missing children - was identified as a priority and a project aimed at reducing the incidence and frequency of children going missing was initiated in the Gwent area. Information held at the time, including police data, confirmed repeated and heavy demand on public services, especially police and local authority social services departments, in responding to children and young people regularly reported as missing.
